You may know from my blogs, that, as a writer, I am always inspired by a sense of place, and living on a windswept hillside in southern Scotland certainly inspires me greatly.

I have just returned from our first family holiday in two years, a pleasant stay in the South West of England, but seven hours on chaotic motorways crushed any creativity out of me and made me thank my lucky stars that I live away from the hustle and bustle!

And what happened when I got back to work this morning and looked out of my office window at the copse which inspired Death List, prompting an opening scene in which a lone gunman waits for a former undercover police officer? The ideas came flowing!

I view sense of place as so important that is the basis for the weekend writing workshops that I run in Dumfries and Galloway for individuals and writing groups. My stories tend to start with the place and the workshops will look at how landscape can be harnessed to shape powerful stories.

The courses will run on July 6/7 and August 24/25, 2019 and there are places available (we have one this weekend, June 21,22, but it is booked up already) The cost is £95 per person, including catering, and you can find out more by emailing deangriss@btinternet.com
