A decision to replace trained school librarians with pupils has been criticised. The criticism came after it was reported that Scottish Borders Council had terminated the contracts of library staff at three schools and put volunteers and pupils in their place.
Education bosses hope the trial would lead to the scheme being rolled out across the region's six other secondary schools, it was reported.
As the Crime Writers’ Association Libraries Champion in Scotland, I think that this move should be resisted. Librarians are highly-skilled professionals and should be valued much more than this.
