Author prepares for homecoming Festival appearance


Best-selling crime novelist John Dean is returning to Darlington to stage a couple of events as part of the literary line-up during Darlington Arts Festival in May.

John, the former chair of Festival organisers Darlington for Culture, left the town after 26 years at the end of 2017 to live in South West Scotland.

The author of 17 novels, he is published by London-based The Book Folks and is the creator of DCI John Blizzard and DCI Jack Harris. His books frequently feature on the Amazon best-seller lists.

His events at Darlington Arts Festival are also part of National Crime Reading Month in May, which is organised by the Crime Writers’ Association and the Crime Readers Association.

John, a member of both organisations as well as Darlington for Culture, said: “I am looking forward to returning to Darlington for the festival. Having been heavily involved in it when I lived in Darlington, I am delighted to see it thriving.”

The events, run through Inscribe Media, of which he is a director, are: An Introduction to Crime Fiction – Writing workshop

Date and time: Sunday May 19, 2019 10am-1pm

Venue: Dr.inks (opposite Hash), 3 Coniscliffe Road, DL3 7EE. 

Price: £15 – not suitable for anyone under sixteen

And The Meek Shall Inherit the Storyline - Talk

John will give a talk looking at how conflict in the modern age drives crime fiction.

Date and time: Sunday May 19, 2019 2-3pm

Venue: Venue: Dr.inks (opposite Hash), 3 Coniscliffe Road, DL3 7EE. 

Price:  £3 not suitable for anyone under sixteen – free for anyone who attends John’s Sunday morning crime fiction workshop. Pay on the door.
