Crime writing couple to talk about the challenges of writing as one

Crime fiction enthusiasts – and I know from my experience at Kirkcudbright Book Week that there are plenty of them in Dumfries and Galloway – will be interested in a  fascinating event to be staged in the area in May.

The Mill on the Fleet at Gatehouse of Fleet, in conjunction with Bakehouse Community Arts, will present an evening with husband and wife team Chris Brookmyre and Dr Marisa Haetzman, who write crime novels together under the name Ambrose Parry.

Chris, an internationally-bestselling and multi-award-winning author, and Marisa, a consultant anaesthetist of twenty years’ experience, were inspired to write the books by the gory details that Marisa uncovered during her History of Medicine degree.

Their Raven and Fisher historical crime thrillers, published by Canongate, feature the darkest of Victorian Edinburgh’s secrets. The first book in the series was The Way Of All Flesh and the fourth, and most recent, is Voices Of The Dead.

The couple, who live in Scotland, will reveal what is like writing together when they deliver their talk at 7.30pm on Thursday May 9 at The Mill on the Fleet.

Tickets are £10 and are available from the Mill Bookshop or online from Ticketsource. More information is available at www.millonthefleet.co.uk/events

An exciting time

Having just completed my latest DCI Blizzard crime novel for my publisher The Book Folks, this is both a nervous time and an exciting time. Nervous because, however experienced you are (and this is Book 25), it’s always a tense time as you wait for feedback from your publisher. You are never too old to learn!Exciting because your thoughts turn to the next book, which…See More
